Island Moving Company is enjoying their nineteenth
season under Artistic Director, Miki Ohlsen.
Ohlsen's new piece, Deconstructing Cole Porter, begins the show. This piece
is a preview of things to come in July for the first ever IMC Outdoor Dance
Festival staged at Ft. Adams in Newport, RI.
Also on the line-up: apples to oranges, Date to be Determined and Under A
Sheltered Sky. apples to oranges is a modern solo performed by Michael Bolger
and choreographed by Boston based choreographer Carol Somers.
Under A Sheltered Sky was performed at the Business Volunteers of the Arts
Dinner in Providence this past January and is featured in Dance on the
Top Floor at Boston Ballet on March 24. The company looks back with a
revival of the 1991 piece, Date to be Determined.

Performances:
1.2 Middle-eastern dance solos (Janice) to non-middle eastern music/second dance was to spoken work from another dancer.
2. Authentic Movement peice (Barry) called One World Trade Center. As members of the audience read from 15 sequentially numbered slips of paper each time he shook a bell, he walked slowly about a feild of every day itemd - a pair of glasses a shirt a lock etc -and sprinkled white powder over them.
3. Mark expertly juggled to music with a dresto (sp?) a black oblong thing which is juggled with from a string wt two sticks on either end that the juggler holds.
4. Off the Curb did several hip hop dances - interesting style less aggressive than most hip hop dance while still being highly physical. One dance was introduced with a lovely acappella song from one of the dancers. Jackie Henderson introduced them.
5. Middle eastern dancers Sarah, Dawn and Jessica danced. Jessica did a solo in a dark purple costume with red scarf and dark purple headband in her mass of long dark hair. Her music was not middle eastern, and her style was more polished and less exhilarating than the me dancers.

Paula Hunter's youth dance company, JUMP!, presents Scenes From the Polar Express, a timeless story with a message of believing and of having faith, based on the classic children's story by local author, Chris Van Allsburg. This new production includes original music by composer, David Brown and Katherine Meckel, a pianist and student at the Lincoln School in Providence. In keeping with JUMP!'s goals, choreography is by the company members and ranges from classical ballet to jazz to tap and street dance all of which have been incorporated into many lively production numbers.

An evening of original music by Steven L. Jobe and choreography by Heather Ahern of Groundwerx Dance Theatre with dancing by Groundwerx and Brinsley Davis, Jamey Garner, and Suzanne Wiltgen of the Minneapolis-based Three Dances. The piece, inspired by the work of painter Heironymous Bosch, features a 12 foot laser harp created by designer Jeremy Woodward. Joining Groundwerx will be 9 musicians playing an assortment of string and reed instruments, including a giant hurdy-gurdy. Don't miss the spectacle!
