NEWS PPAC started selling Wicked tickets on Saturday and to the suprise (and delight) of theatre management triggered a theatre event. People started forming a line at 2am in the hopes of grabbing the best tickets possible. (As we all know the season holders get the very best tickets.) Wicked will be in Providence from January 3 through 21, 2007. NEW VERSION OF FORBIDDEN BROADWAY OPENS IN NEW YORK Forbidden Broadway, the musical that takes other musicals to task for various theatrical and writing idiocies has premiered its latest version featuring spoofs on Annie, Wicked, Mary Poppins (which is still in previews) and and Jersey Boys. Although FB makes merry with other shows, it clearly loves the musical form and that and audiences have been devoted to it for the past 25 years. [Read more at Bloomberg News] THE TIMES DISSES THE TIMES The October 27, 2006 NYT features a damning review of Twla Tharp's latest jukebox musical, The Times They Are A-Changin', which opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theater on October 26. The workshops cover dance, voice and performance DANCE Artistic Director, Kim Morgan has appeared on Broadway, off-Broadway, Regional theatre, television and film. Ms Morgan will teach a set of basic dance steps to prepare you for any general audition. Different styles of dance and movement will be taught to prepare you for an audition. Many musicals are set in a past time and the successful auditioner needs to know how to walk, gesture, dance and move from that period. ACTING Acting Coach, David Dilullo has a theatre degree from the University of Rhode Island and has studied at the American Musical and Dramatics Academy. He is the Performing Chair and Theatre Director at Prout School's acclaimed Theatre Department. Mr.Dilullo will conduct an acting class and do individual acting critiques. You are asked to prepare 2 one minute monologues of different dramatic ranges in preparation for his session. SONG Dennis Buck will return as Music Director. He will help you refine the audition song repertoire. Mr Buck has played in the orchestra of 1 Broadway shows and has accompanied such diverse entertainers as Eartha Kitt, Placido Domingo, Carol Channing, Betty Buckley and Tommy Tune. VOICE Kathryne Jenning, Voice Instructor at Brown University as well as Artistic Director at Opera Providence, will help you with vocal warmups, finding your appropriate voice range, breathing techniques, preserving you voice, and dratic delivery of songs. Both for Song and Voice, you should prepare 16 bars of 2 songs in different styles for a critique. Rita O'Connor Teacher, Choreographer, retired dancer - Rita O'Connnor danced in many musicals on and off Broadway including Promises, Promises, Coco and Follies. In 1985, she toured with Chorus Line. She was one of the inspirations for Cassie, the ballet dancer, in Chorus Line. She choreographed Chorus Line for the much-lauded URI production.
