Kaeritai, an original ballet inspired by the beauty and culture of Japan, headlines Rhode Island's Ballet Theatre's celebration of international dance on April 3 at North Kingstown High School.

The program features ballets honoring the traditions of Ireland, Italy, and Spain in addition to the Japanese themed Kaeritai, which means "I wish to return" in the Japanese language.

"Kaeritai captures the harmony the Japanese seek between man and nature, and between people," says Nancy McAuliffe, RIBT's Artistic Director and Kaeritai choreographer. "Based on the four seasons, the ballet embodies the Japanese concepts of Shibui, which holds that beauty and nature are synonymous; and Ryomin, a highly defined system of manners, hospitality, generosity and unselfishness."

Also headlining the show is Moscow native Genia Krassowski, who will partner RIBT dancers in Espana, a fiery contemporary ballet on pointe showcasing the athleticism of the dancers. Krassowski, a native of Moscow, studied at the Moscow Academy and the Frankfurt College of Musik and Performing Arts. He is currently with Heritage Ballet.

Rounding out the program are Celtic Reflections, a breathtaking neo-classical ballet set to lively Celtic music, and one of Rhode Island's ballet theatre's most popular ballets; and Festival in Venice, a story ballet performed to Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italiane.

Show time is 7 PM. Tickets are $15 and $25. Call 401-847-5301 for information or visit
