OPEN FOR DANCING Outdoor Dance Festival September 22 thru 26, 2004 Come Dance In Newport Rhode Island's Historic City by the Sea Island Moving Co. invites you to Open For Dancing, a participatory outdoor dance festival September 22 thru 26, 2004. The Festival will feature work created for famous Newport landscapes by well-known choreographers and performed by all kinds of dancers, and one of those dancers could be you! Open For Dancing welcomes all levels, ages and body types. If you would like to be part of this exciting project - rehearse and perform a dance with the choreographer who made the dance - or just take the master classes, REGISTER now or call the Island Moving Co. at 401-847-4470. Come Dancing You may participate as a dancer, tech support or opt to experience the Festival as an audience member. There's a place for everyone! Feel free to bring non-dancing friends and family members - they will find that Newport is full of exciting things to do and September is a great time to explore the area. Just don't forget to invite them to your performance! How Much Dance Do I Have To Know? You can be a trained dancer, a rank beginner or anything in between. You can have danced for years or have only dreamed of the possibilities. Open For Dancing uses the contemporary dance idiom, which permits a a wide technique base. In addition, the choreographers, you will work with, are experienced with your level of expertise. How It Works You will be assigned to a choreographer based on your dance background, abilities and the choreographer's needs. No one will be left out. Rehearsals will be held on-site at the location where you will perform. In case of heavy sustained rain, classes will be held at the Island Moving Co studios located in downtown Newport at the Newport Academy of Ballet . Come prepared to put in long hours, work hard and love every minute! Rate Only $150.00 for five days of extraordinary experiences!! The price includes all festival events - opening gala reception, Ballard Park Cello concert, cocktail party, Saturday night informal dinner, master classes, panel discussion, rehearsals & training with choreographers as well as performing in an original dance. Choreographers & Artists You will train and perform a dance by one of these outstanding choreographers: Jim Coleman & Terese Freedman Noemie Lafrance Daniel McCusker Michael Bolger Locations You will rehearse and perform at one of these spectatular Newport locations. The rocky lawn at Doris Duke's Rough Point The ramparts and parade ground of historic Fort Adams The Sod Maze by artist Richard Fleischner      on the grounds of Chateau-sur-Mer Rehearsals & Performances Dances will be rehearsed the first three days of the festival from 3 to 6pm and performed on September 25 & September 26 three times each afternoon, with audiences traveling to the sites by trolley. Master Classes will be held in the mornings while rehearsals for each dance will be held in the afternoons. Festival rehearsals are the same as any dance company rehearsal except that you will be performing before the week is over! What's Happening Morning master class with choreographers       September 22 thru 24 Lunch with choreographers September 22       thru 24 (BYOL) Wednesday night Gala Reception at Doris       Duke's famed Newport home, Rough Point Thursday night Baroque cello concert       at Ballard Park Thursday night cocktail party Friday evening panel discussion on site-specific       art including Monumenta Performances at three Newport locations       from 3 to 6pm on September 25 & 26 including       transportation by trolley between performance       locations The Phantom Limb guerilla dance troupe will       present spontaneous performances throughout       downtown Newport A performance in the center of Newport       on Queen Anne Square choreographed by       Michael Bolger. This dance will start rehearsal       prior to the Festival.
