Newport's unique Nutcracker returns to Rosecliff this holiday season beginning on Thanksgiving weekend. The Island Moving Co.'s fresh take on the holiday classic opens on Friday, November 26th and runs for twelve performances. The Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff is choreographed by Island Moving Co. Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen, Eva Marie Pacheco and Michael Bolger. The choreographers have set the first act of the ballet in the various spectacular settings of the mansion, with the audience following the action from room to room. Audience members join the party in the Oelrich's dining room and see the fight between the mice and the soldiers on Rosecliff's magnificent sweetheart staircase. For the second act, in the Land of the Sweets, the audience is seated at cabaret tables in the gold and white ballroom. Golden Circle seats are in the front row.
The Island Moving Co.'s eight dancers are joined for this production by a large children's cast from across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Presented in partnership with the Preservation Society, the Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff will provide an unforgettable holiday experience for the family.
