The Andrea Rizzo Dance Therapy Foundation invites dance studios, schools, organizations and other groups to join the Walk For Children annual fundraiser
The annual cliff walk and dance celebration is a great way for dance studios and other groups to build community, raise money for the The Andrea Rizzo Foundation, which provides the gift of dance to children with cancer and disabilities, and the chance to win $500.00 for the winner's chosen charity or non-profit.
This outdoor event features a two mile walk along Newport's scenic Cliff Walk and through the historic Salve Regina campus along with door prizes, raffles, entertainment, and refreshments
Form A Team!
The opportunity for a group to walk together for a loved one or common cause is a powerful experience. The more teams we have the more powerful the event will be!
- Form a team and pick a name!
- Raise money by asking friends, relatives, and acquaintances to pledge for your team
- You fill out the Registration form and the Sponsor Form and send them to the Foundation
- On August 19, your group arrives at the Salve Regina campus and walks the cliff walk
- After the walk, your group is invited to enjoy the festivities including refreshments, dance performances, a kayak raffle and door prizes.
If your group can get 10 people to sponsor $10.00 each, you will be making a major contribution to the number of hours The Rizzo Foundation can provide to children with cancer and special needs. Proceeds benefit The Andrea Rizzo Dance Therapy Program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Rizzo Foundation public school outreach program, bringing dance therapy to RI public school children with special needs.
Compete for your Charity!
Your team has the option to participate in the walk AND compete for five hundred dollars, which will go to a youth charity of your choice.
Teams of 10 or more will receive a banner with their team name to carry during the walk (see photo above) and each team member, who raises at least $30.00 in pledges, will receive an event T-Shirt.
To compete, teams must have raised at least $500.00 in pledges. The registration charge for each competing team member is $10.
The Foundation's goal is to raise $10,000 to help children with cancer and special needs through the powerful impact of dance therapy.
If you are interested in forming a team to walk with a personalized banner. Please send for a Team Info Packet by filling out the Registration Form and checking the appropriate box.
Requests for the packet must be received by August 5. Call 401-952-2423 if you have missed the deadline.
Your team registration must be received by August 10 so your banner and T-shirts will be ready for the Cliff Walk.
Dance Therapy Seminar
Dance teachers, senior dance students, dance movement therapists and others are encouraged to attend Collaborating With a Mission: Dance and Dance/Movement Therapy - a seminar about dance therapy, which will be held from 130pm to 345pm prior to the cliff walk. Click here for details and schedule
Andrea Rizzo Dance Therapy Foundation
The Andrea Rizzo Foundation founded and funds the dance therapy program at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, one of the top cancer hospitals in the country. In addition, the Foundation provides dance movement therapy to schools and hospitals throughout Rhode Island and Connecticut.
In addition to increasing employment opportunities for dance movement therapists, the Foundation, in conjunction with Dance Alliance of RI, the American Dance Therapy Association, and the New England Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association National Dance, runs workshops for dance students, educators, dance therapists and allied health workers to learn more about Dance Movement Therapy.
