Come clown around with Randy and Tom

Twelfth Night Jesters Randy Judkins and Tom Murphy will offer a unique opportunity to learn physical comedy skills at a Clowning Masterclass. The two-hour workshop will take place on Sunday, January 7 at 2:00 at the Christ Church Parish Hall, 7 Elm Street in Westerly. The workshop is open to the public (age 12 and over).

The fee is $25 per person and admission is on a first come/first serve basis and is limited to a maximum of 40 participants. Registrations are taken by phone at (401) 596-8663 and will also be accepted at the door.

Randy Judkins and Tom Murphy are both known nationally for their clowning around and jestering skills. Each physical comedian maintains a busy performance and teaching schedule year-round that takes them around the globe bringing laughs to audiences of all ages.

For the January 7 clowning workshop, the two comedy masters will share techniques on physical comedy, juggling, comedic timing and more. If you have always wondered what it takes to be a clown or just want to learn how to fall down without getting hurt, this workshop is for you.

Randy Judkins

Randy Judkins has been playing a Jester with the Chorus of Westerly's Celebration of Twelfth Night since the early days of the production. Since 1975, Randy Judkins has performed a one-person comedy, vaudeville, variety show at schools, corporations, festivals and anywhere else that would have him in over 20 U.S. states, Canada and Europe.

He's a keynote speaker for educational systems and business groups across the US. In 1989, Randy created a comedic performance piece for teachers, middle school and high school students on strategies in building self esteem entitled Full Esteem Ahead.

Laughing in the Face of Change, was written in 1994 as a motivational, interactive presentation for businesses and specialty groups.

Tom Murphy

Tom Murphy, who has also appeared as a jester in the Chorus of Westerly's annual Celebration of Twelfth Night for nearly two decades, has co-founded two international touring comedy troupes: Mountain Mime and Klown Shoes.

He shared his talent as a teacher in Denmark, France, Germany, Austria, and the U.S. as a faculty member at the Boston University Theater Institute and three years at Ringling Brother's Clown College.

He was featured on a Showtime special from The Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. In Paris he was awarded Number One Clown at the 1987 international circus competition, Cirque de Demain.

Mr. Murphy has been touring primarily in Europe and the United States where he has made a solid reputation as a Theater Clown, garnering descriptions such as "Der Chaos Poet", "...a descendant of the great clown, Charlie Rivel," and "...One of the greats of our time." In November 1998 Mr. Murphy performed his solo show on Broadway at the New Victory Theater. It was a 13 show, sold out engagement that the New York Times called "a sure-fire cure for the blahs." In the same vein as Keaton, Lloyd, and Chaplin, Mr. Murphy continues to be one of the top slapstick comedians alive today.

Court Jesters

Both comedians will be featured in the Chorus of Westerly's upcoming production A Celebration of Twelfth Night, a Westerly tradition since 1975, on January 13 and 14, 2007 at the Chorus of Westerly's George Kent Performance Hall, 119 High Street, Westerly, Rhode Island. Performances are at 1, 4 and 8 p.m., with a Peasants' Feast being served at 6 p.m. both days. There is a preview performance on Friday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this all-new production of the ever-popular holiday spectacular are now on sale.
