Dance Across The City expands to two days

Dance Across the City is a wonderful dance festival held every year in Boston. It's free and open dance lovers of all ages. This year's event starts off Friday night with performance by national and local companies, and Saturday offers dance activities for families, professionals and dance enthusiasts

Danceacrossthecity.org, is the principal information source for Dance Across the City Day for both artists and participants.

Free dance performance at the Strand on Friday January 5

This year's program will include performances by Boston Ballet, Boston Arts Academy, Pilobolus and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (who will present a portion of Revelations!).

To reserve your free tickets for Dance Across The City at The Strand Theatre, please call 617-598-3201.

A maximum of 6 tickets are permitted per person. There is no assigned seating. After you have placed your order, please allow for 2 business days to pick-up your tickets. (Hurry! There's not much time left.)

Please note: Tickets must be picked-up by 5 p.m. on January 4th. Any remaining reserved tickets will be released to the general public at the Strand Theatre box office on Friday, January 5th 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Space is limited and tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

There is limited on-street parking on Columbia Road and local side streets. Public transportation is strongly recommended.

January 6 is Dance Across the City Day

Dance Across the City Day - January 6, 2007 - is a free, daylong event featuring classes by leading local and national dancers and dance companies and showcases by local dance companies.

Dance Across the City Day activities are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are appropriate for anyone interested in dance, from the enthusiastic beginner to the trained professional dancer. Dance instruction activities - led by dancers from local and national companies and organizations - offer a wide range of options for participants.

DATC Details

Dance Instruction

Free classes will be offered for dance enthusiasts from ages 5 to adults for all levels of experience and ability, and in a variety of dance styles. Classes will be led by dance professionals from Boston and national dance companies.

Classes offer an in-depth instructional opportunity to explore the technique of a specific dance or movement style and/or dance company.

Classes are 60 minutes long and are offered in five levels: Beginner (0-2 years of experience); Intermediate (3-6 years of experience); Advanced (7-10 years of experience); Professional (10+ years and professional experience), and Everyone (all ages, all levels).

Dance Across the City Day 2007 will include classes in Afro-Haitian dance, Argentine tango, African, ballet, belly dancing, liturgical dance, Latin social dance, Hawaiian hula, Baroque dance, breakdancing, Chinese classical, creative movement, flamenco, hip-hop, Indian classical, jazz dance, Irish step dancing, salsa, tap, kung fu, tae kwon do, Turkish, Georgian, Russian and Central Asian folk dance, and modern dance.

Saturday Registration

All Saturday classes, lecture/demonstrations and showcases are free and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration takes place at Citi/Wang Theatre beginning at 8:00 am. There is NO advance registration for Saturday. Because of space limitations it is suggested that participants arrive as early as possible to register and secure a spot.

Saturday Showcases

Dance showcases are free and are limited only to the number of seats available in the Citi/Shubert Theatre. The schedule for the 2006 Dance Showcases will be as follows

Cultural Showcase 12:30-1:30

Saturday Resource Center

Dance schools, organizations, companies and institutions will host informational tables at the Resource Center, located throughout the Grand Lobby of Citi/Wang Theatre from noon to 3 pm. Dance Across the City Day activities for 2007 will take place at locations throughout Citi/Wang Theatre and Citi/Shubert Theatre.

The Collaboration

Bank of America Celebrity Series and The Citi Performing Arts Center have a long history of collaborating to present leading modern dance and ballet companies from around the world.

The collaboration also affords the Boston community the opportunity to share the artistry and energy of many remarkable local and internationally known companies offstage through Dance Across the City, which showcases the wealth of dance in the Boston area through a series of creative and interactive events that are free and open to the public.

Bank of America Celebrity Series

Bank of America Celebrity Series is New England's leading presenter of music, dance, and the performing arts from around the world. Founded in 1938, the Series incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in 1989. Each year, the Celebrity Series brings to Boston's major concert halls performances by instrumental and vocal soloists, symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, dance companies, jazz and popular music performers, folk and ethnic performance groups, and other performing artists.

The Celebrity Series' Arts, Education and Community program was initiated in 1984. It reaches over 20,000 students annually through more than 130 activities each year at 225 Boston area schools and organizations, including AileyCamp Boston, a six-week summer dance program for Boston middle school students.

Citi Performing Arts Center
