The American Ballet Theatre Studio Company will give one performance only at Sapinsley Hall in the Nazarian Center at Rhode Island College on Thursday, November 9th at 8:00pm.

At the performance on Thursday night, the company will perform four dances from the repertory, including the classic Jardin Aux Lilas by Anthony Tudor, two works by Kirk Peterson, and one by Adam Hoagland.

Tudor, one of the founders of American Ballet Theatre (along with Narragansett summer reisdent, Lucia Chase) , is remembered for his influence in contemporary ballet that stemmed from his psychological probing of his characters. His Jardin Aux Lilas, (1936) explores human relationships with the greatest subtlety, using gestures and movements - quick glances, a suddenly outstretched arm, a gesture of sympathy - that have become his hallmarks.

Kirk Peterson, artistic director of the Studio Company, contributes two works to the program, Eyes That Gently Touch and The Howling Cat (Imaginary Tango), inspired by a seven-hour French silent serial film entitled Les Vampires by Louis Feuillade which includes wildly disparate forms of dance. Peterson has created over 50 ballets and collaborated with Michael Smuin on the Broadway shows Anything Goes and Shogun.

Adam Hoagland, former dancer with the Toronto Dance Theater and the Limon Dance Company, contributes Vanish, choreographed to Peter Vasks Fourth String Quartet. Hoagland has choreographed nationally and internationally and his work has been televised on Live From Lincoln Center on PBS.

Lecture at Brown University

The Company will also do an informal Lecture Demonstration in the Ashamu Dance Theatre at the Catherine Bryan Dill Center for the Performing Arts on the Brown University Campus on Thursday morning November 9th at 10:00am. Limited seats are available for $5.00. For reservations: 401-863-7596.
